5 Things You Need To Know About HIFU Treatment

We are lucky to live in an age where non-surgical HIFU treatments are available left, right and centre. Whatever your concern, there is always a suitable treatment that can be tailored. But due to the abundance of choice, finding the right treatment for your skin is what becomes a challenge!

For those who may not be completely acquainted with HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound), it is the next generation in advanced non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment offering natural, real and lasting results.

Here are 5 things you must know when it comes to wrapping your head around HIFU:

What is HIFU Treatment used for?

Think of HIFU as a non-surgical face lift or Botox without needles! HIFU firms, tightens and lifts the skin in the face and décolletage area all without the use of a scalpel. Whether it is sagging skin on your chin and neck or drooping eyelids, HIFU will provide immediate results after your first treatment with absolutely no recovery time.

How does HIFU work?

You may be thinking, a face lift without a scalpel!? Sounds too good to be true! Well here is how it works. Ultrasound energy is used to target the deeper layers of the skin, causing the tissue to heat up rapidly. Once these cells have been heated, they become damaged, which may sound concerning but it is this damage that stimulate cells to produce more collagen.

The increase in collagen provides a tighter, firmer and smoother skin appearance and since the ultrasound energy is only targeting specific tissue below the skin, there is no damage done to the upper layers of the skin’s surface.

What can I expect during HIFU treatment?

There is a reason why HIFU has been nicknamed the “lunchtime facial”, there is no preparation needed and zero recovery time! Here’s what you can expect at your appointment:

  • Our technician will clean the target area and prepare the skin with an enzyme peel
  • They will then apply a topical aesthetic cream followed by an ultrasound gel
  • The HIFU device is placed against the skin and is adjusted to the right setting
  • Ultrasound energy is then directed to the target area in short pulses for approximately 30-90 minutes. During this, you may feel slight levels of heat and tingling
  • The device is then removed, and the treatment is followed by a LED light therapy and collagen mask to further enhance the results
  • Finally, you are free to resume your normal daily activities!

Is HIFU safe?

HIFU Treatments is considered to be very safe and is performed by many trained medical professionals worldwide. Although rare, you may experience few side effects immediately after treatment, but they will resolve within 24 hours. These may include redness, slight swelling and tingling.

How long does HIFU last and how often should I receive treatments?

Probably one of the mot important questions regarding HIFU is how long will it last? Is it worth my investment? Well that all depends on the age of the client, however, most clients will be satisfied with one treatment, as it does take 3-6 months to see the complete results. Clients will then book maintenance treatments, this may be yearly, quarterly or however often our technician recommends. After all, every client will have individualised needs.

Hopefully you now have a better understanding of what HIFU is and how it works and are one step closer to achieving your skin goals!
