Celery : THE DETOX DIET SUPER FOOD
Celery has excellent cleansing properties that help to aid digestion, regulate body fluid by acting as a diuretic and curbing sweet cravings.
Celery leaves are high in vitamin A, whilst the stems are an excellent source of vitamins B1,B2, B6 and C and packed with potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and essential amino acids.
Celery is great in soups, stews, stir – fries and salads.
Raw celery sticks make great snacks for dips . Fill up short lengths sticks with low fat cottage cheese or peanut butter . A very healthy snack for all ages.
Celery is great for juicing. A celery juice is highly nutritious and very hydrating. Because it is incredibly alkalising, it equalises the body’s PH, which is essential for good health.
Celery Detox Juice
4 washed celery sticks, leaves attached
4 large carrots – scrubbed
1/2 beetroot – scrubbed
6 sprigs fresh continental parsley
small piece of fresh ginger – washed and unpeeled
ice cubes to serve
Method
Cut the vegetables into large pieces. Use a juice extractor to process the carrots, celery , beetroot, parsley and ginger.
Serve with ice if desired.
