Skincare Tips to Maintain Healthy Skin During Isolation

In almost 30 years of trading, I never thought I would be leading my clinic and my lovely clients through a pandemic, yet, here we are, week 3 of our new restricted lives with raw, dry hands from regular hand sanitising.

While we may have lost control of many aspects of our lives right now, we still have the ability to maintain our skin care regime. Even though our regular day to day routine has been disrupted this doesn’t give you a free pass to let your skin go. It is important to try our best to hold on to our regular habits as best we can for the sake of our mental health more so our physical.

I’m sure the first thing on everyone’s list of skin concerns right now is how to manage healthy skin on our hands while we are regularly and washing and sanitising. Over washing your hands can lead to dryness and irritation, I suggest using a hand moisturiser regularly after washing. The trick is to moisturise while your hands are still slightly damp, so moisture is trapped and does not entirely evaporate.

You might find my next tip, overkill, but I cannot stress this one enough – keep using SPF every day even indoors! While it is useful not to lose the habit of apply sunscreen every day it is important to know that UVA rays are powerful enough to penetrate through windows. UVA rays are the rays that penetrate deep into the skin and is the main contributor to photo-aging, which can be seen via dark spots, wrinkles and leathery textured skin. So, although you are sitting by a window or in your yard at home you must apply your SPF as if you would if you were leaving the house.

From business closures to loss of routine and being physically distant from our loved ones, there is so much uncertainty that will cause you a lot of stress during this pandemic. Although it is easier said than done, we must be mindful of our general wellness. What we are feeling inside and, in our minds, will reflect on the outside – through our skin. Try to get consistent and adequate levels of sleep, drink water regularly and remind yourself we are all in this together.
